Such is the language employed by recruitment agencies across Australia as they desperately seek to fill thousands of jobs in aged-care centres and hospitals for people to work alongside residents and patients known to be infected with COVID-19.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are urgently seeking experienced RNs (registered nurses) to start work as soon as possible on COVID Response Teams,\u2019\u2019 says one of the ads for COVID frontline workers, on SEEK yesterday.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere are several facilities in dire need \u2026 It is imperative that you are a nurse who displays \u00adcalmness, compassion, kindness and professionalism at all times.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n
The ads show a desperate shortage also of cleaners, managers and receptionists in aged-care centres, where staff are being stood down daily, creating gaps in the frontline of the crisis.<\/p>\n
Nurses are reminded: \u201cThere are residents on site who have COVID and strict infection control\u00ad protocols will be in place for all residents\u2019 care.\u201d<\/p>\n

Recruitment agencies are also offering flexible shifts and high rates of pay for nurses who \u201ccontribute your skills and experience towards the COVID-19 fight\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u201cAll shift options available,\u201d one ad says. \u201cSupport patients in this unprecedented time.\u201d<\/p>\n
Others offer \u201ca fantastic pay rate\u201d to work with \u201cconfirmed COVID-19 cases \u2026 AM, PM & night shifts available & paid weekly\u2019\u2019, and a \u201cuser-friendly app which allows you to pick up shifts with a click of the button!\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe facilities do have a few confirmed COVID cases, but all procedures and precautions are being taken to prevent the spread,\u201d one ad says. \u201cYou must have access to your vehicle, paid experience in the role you\u2019re applying for and not be working elsewhere due to the risk of coming into contact with COVID-19. In exchange you will (get) free uniform, monthly rosters, fantastic pay rates, bonus scheme and 24\/7 support!\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n
Senior recruitment consultant and account manager Paul Botfield heads the COVID res\u00adponse team for JPS Medical recruitment.<\/p>\n
He told The Australian \u201cwe see it like a call-out to those unsung heroes across Melbourne to step up for our ageing population. We are saying: you can help make a difference,\u2019\u2019 he said.<\/p>\n
JPS is working with 23 facilities in Melbourne to fill about 600 shifts per day. \u201cI think you really have to be calm,\u2019\u2019 Mr Botfield said.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s organised chaos, there\u2019s no other way to describe working finding staff to work 24 hours a day, seven days. We are referring to these people as heroes on the frontline.<\/p>\n
\u201cThese centres are in lockdown, family cannot visit, so the staff are the first point of contact for the most vulnerable people in Melbourne.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur job is to provide the most calming reassuring environment possible.\u201d<\/p>\n
Mr Botfield said gaps were being filled by \u201cnew graduates, people who have an aged-care qualification who maybe haven\u2019t been able to find consistent work, people returning to the profession, it\u2019s a whole range.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n
He said efforts were being made for recruits to \u201ckeep each other safe, and understand fully the situation they are going into\u201d.<\/p>\n
There are also multiple jobs available for COVID-19 drive-through collection teams, for the \u201ccollection of nasopharyngeal and throat swab for COVID-19 PCR testing\u201d.<\/p>\n
